2008 Public Arts Building Communities Grant Recipient- Youth painters along with
R.E. affiliate artists from A/M Radio, completed installation of 2nd mural art work at Ft. Stevens
Recreation Center in upper NW.  With support from the DC Commission on the Arts and
Humanities, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, our young people came
together to beautify the Brightwood community. The permanent mural art work is
appreciated 24/7 outside at 13th and Van Buren Streets, NW.

R.E.'s Mission!

Raising Expectations’ mission (R.E.) is to instill cultural
integrity, self-empowerment, and discipline among
youth ages 13-22 through instruction in the
visual/performing arts and arts apprenticeship
opportunities.  By creating fun-filled cultural arts activities
and fostering positive relationships between youth,
parents, and teachers, R.E. bridges generational
communication gaps and facilitate solutions-oriented
dialogue and interaction.

With a diverse consortium of arts educators and
mentors (see our
About Us Page), R.E. instructors
challenge the creative energy and potential of youth and
young adults.  We provide skills-based, interactive
learning exercises in our arts workshops.  Workshops
range from wooden-sculpture making to the craft of
DJ'ing, and from arts healing methods to salsa dancing
lessons.

R.E. workshops and arts apprenticeships fascinate and
sharpen young people's understanding of the dedication
necessary to achieve artistic masterpieces.  One youth
at a time, we are changing their perspective of the world
around them and helping them to bring people of
diverse backgrounds together!  Since 2005, our motto
has been to "R.E.-Educate, R.E.-Unify, and R.E.-Connect
Through the Arts," and our mission is to do just that at
each youth arts enrichment workshop activity!
Who R.E. Serves

> Adult Workshops
Our consulting group of Raising Expectations Inc.
teachs educators and administrators as well as other
community organizations how to embrace and
respect their student ideas and motivations through
artistic exercises.

Special Parenting Workshops
Raising Expectations Inc. welcomes the participation
of parents and teachers as volunteers in our youth
workshops because we believe in providing adults
with "quality time" in an open environment to re-
connect and re-unify with young people as we learn
valuable skills together.  Contact us to organize a
Special
R.E. Parenting Workshop designed
exclusively for parents teach them how to creatively
reach out to their children and expose them to the
arts and culture.

> Special Educators Workshops
Creative classroom learning strategies that
incorporate various forms of art, music, and dance
have been proven to improve SAT scores, discipline,
and motivation for students.  R.E. personnel develops
arts-based curriculum for academic core subjects to
help close communication gaps and overcome
discipline issues that prevent successful learning.

apprenticeship opportunities
Increasing youth awareness of diverse cultures and artistic forms of cultural expression
